Two Muslim women have been arrested in Pakistan’s Punjab province on charges of blasphemy. Both the women have been accused of burning pages of the Quran. According to a PTI report, on Tuesday, the police have registered a case against both of them under section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code. The names of the women are Shahnaz Khan and Shazia Karamat. Shahnaz is the principal of a private school and Shazia works as a cook in her house. Both these women live in Rai Kala village of Kasur district, 50 km from Lahore. They have been arrested on the complaint of Kashif Ali, the Imam of the village mosque. Family members left the village
According to the police, the village Imam had announced from the mosque on August 10, accusing both the women of burning pages of the Quran. Since then, the families of both the women have left the village. At present, the accused women are being questioned. Police said that after this incident, a large police team reached there so that nothing untoward happens. Shahnaz Khan had hidden before the crowd reached her school and house. Christian sisters accused of blasphemy last week
Last week, Punjab Police also registered a blasphemy case against two Christian sisters. Samiya Masih and Sonia Masih were accused of throwing a sack full of Quran pages outside their house on August 7. Both are under 20 years of age. Samiya and Sonia are residents of Gojra village in Toba Tek Singh district, 200 km from Lahore. In this case, Advocate Akmal Bhatti, President of Minority Alliance Pakistan, said that the allegations against the Christian sisters are false. 21 churches were burnt in Pakistan last year
Last year, in Jaranwala in Punjab province of Pakistan, fundamentalists set fire to 21 churches. After this incident on August 16, 2023, Christian houses were looted and set on fire.
