Highest airfield in eastern Ladakh, 35km from China: 95% of its 3km long runway is complete; work continues in -4º for Project Himank

The five-year-long tension with China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh is now coming to an end, but during this time India has almost completed many important projects in that remote area. One of these is the country’s highest airfield, which is currently taking shape at 13,700 feet (4175.76 m) in Mud village of Nyoma subdivision in eastern Ladakh. 95% of the work on its 3 km long runway has been completed.
The airfield will open for the army next year as soon as the ATC work is completed. Under Project Himank, the Army’s Border Roads Task Force team is working in minus 4 degree temperature. According to BRTF Commander Colonel Ponung Doming, this will be the country’s highest airport, which is just 35 km from LAC and 200 km from Ladakh. Heavy weapons will reach the border in 2 hours, not 2 days

Colonel Doming, who is leading the task force at Hanle, 15300 feet above, said that the foundation stone of this airfield was laid in September last year. It is being built by KCC Buildcon Private Limited. The cost is Rs 218 crore. Currently, 250 workers are working even in minus 4 degrees. From next year, all types of defense aircraft will be able to land here easily. Currently, if heavy defense equipment has to be delivered to the LAC, then first they have to be brought to KBR Airport in Leh, 200 km away. Then from there they are brought to LAC by road. After the new airfield is built, heavy weapons will reach LAC in just two hours. Here the temperature falls to minus 35 degrees in winter, but we did not stop the work even then. Colonel Doming is the first female military officer of Arunachal Pradesh to be promoted to the rank of Colonel. Under the Livelihood Project, deserted villages have started to settle again…
Mud village was chosen for this project so that the deserted areas near LAC can become lively. The government has named it the Lively Village Program. Shops have started coming up near the airstrip in Mud. Villagers hope that this winter they will start getting fresh vegetables from Chandigarh. The world’s highest airfield is built at an altitude of 4411 m in China. The Doacheng Yading Airport built in Sichuan province of South China is the highest in the world. It is built 4411 m above sea level. Currently, there are 10 highest airports in the world, 8 of them are in China. Of these, 7 airports are located at 4 thousand m above sea level, while two airfields are in Bolivia. ———————————- Also read this news related to eastern Ladakh… Indo-Chinese forces start retreating in eastern Ladakh, to avoid clashes like Galwan, Indian and Chinese forces have started retreating from the eastern Ladakh border from Friday, October 25.
