Bangladesh immigration police stopped 54 ISKCON members going to India with valid passports and visas at the border. These people were going to India to participate in a religious ceremony. Regarding this, the immigration police says that even though they had valid passports and visas, they did not have special permission from the government. An officer of Benapole immigration police told The Daily Star newspaper – We spoke to the special branch of the police. From where we got instructions not to let ISKCON members cross the border. A group of devotees from different districts of the country had reached the Benapole border to go to India. They waited for hours to cross the border in Benapole, but later they were told that they did not have permission for this. ISKCON member Saurabh Tapandar Cheli said – We were going to participate in a religious ceremony taking place in India, but the immigration officials stopped us citing lack of government permission. On the other hand, Kolkata ISKCON spokesperson Radharaman Das has claimed the arrest of 4 ISKCON members in Bangladesh so far. Posting a picture of four Hindu priests, Radharaman Das wrote – Do these look like terrorists? All of them have been arrested by the Bangladeshi police without any reason. Protests are going on in different parts of Bangladesh for the release of Hindu religious leader Chinmay Prabhu. At the same time, ISKCON Bangladesh has disassociated itself from Chinmay Prabhu. According to news agency PTI, Yunus administration has seized the bank accounts of 17 people associated with ISKCON for 30 days. This includes Chinmay Prabhu’s account as well. Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent its instructions to different banks on Thursday.
