Lucknow Super Giants owner buys team in England: Bid 1252 crores for Manchester Originals in The Hundred League

The RPSC Group, which owns IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants, on Monday acquired the right to partner with Lancashire to operate England’s League The Hundred team Manchester Originals. According to Cricinfo, Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSC Group placed the highest bid of around Rs 1252 crore to acquire a 49 percent stake in the English franchise. The group had unsuccessfully bid for ‘London Spirit’ on Friday. The auction was won by a Silicon Valley tech consortium. Lancashire said in a statement-
Lancashire issued a statement on Monday afternoon confirming the deal. We were looking for a great partner. RPSG Group has been our preferred bidder for some time. We are very happy with this result. We are excited to build a great future together. Our joint target is to create a special cricket team for the people of Manchester and the North West region. The terms of the deal will be discussed in the next 8 weeks

According to the report, ‘Both the parties (Lancashire and RPSG Group) will now discuss the terms of the deal for 8 weeks. Lancashire has previously suggested that they are ready to discuss selling some of their 51 percent stake. However, the amount should be so high that they are able to repay a significant part of their bank loan.’ Goenka bought the league in SA20 2 years ago

Goenka, chairman and founder of RPSG Group, bought the Lucknow franchise in the IPL in 2021 for Rs 7,090 crore before buying the Durban franchise in SA20 in 2022. He was also the owner of Rising Pune Supergiant before this. RPSG Group participated in the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons, when Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended.
