Mufti Shah Mir, who helped in kidnapping former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, has died in Balochistan, Pakistan. He was shot by unknown gunmen on Friday night. Mufti Mir had helped Pakistani intelligence agency ISI in kidnapping Kulbhushan Jadhav from Iran. He was coming out of the mosque after namaz on Friday night. Then bike-borne attackers ambushed him and shot him several times. According to the report of Pakistani newspaper Dawn, after being shot, he was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. Mufti Mir, involved in human trafficking and arms smuggling, was a member of the Islamic fundamentalist party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. Pakistan arrested Jadhav on charges of espionage
The Pakistani Army had said on March 3, 2016 that it had arrested Kulbhushan Jadhav from Balochistan province. Pakistan had accused Kulbhushan of being involved in espionage and anti-national activities. Pakistan had released a video in which Jadhav allegedly admitted that he was working for the Indian intelligence agency RAW and was involved in spreading instability in Balochistan and Karachi. However, India rejected it and said that this was a forced statement. India said that Pakistan’s intelligence agencies kidnapped Jadhav from Iran. Jadhav was doing business in Iran after retirement. Jadhav sentenced to death, currently in jail
Jadhav was tried in a military court of Pakistan. On 10 April 2017, the military court sentenced him to death on charges of espionage, terrorism and anti-national activities. India strongly condemned this decision and said that transparency was not maintained in this case. In May 2017, India approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and accused Pakistan of violating the Vienna Convention. India argued that Jadhav was not given a fair trial in his case and his rights were violated. ICJ stayed Jadhav’s execution and ordered to ensure his safety till the final decision. In July 2019, ICJ ruled in India’s favour and ordered Pakistan to reconsider Jadhav’s sentence. Since then, Pakistan has not taken any decision on this. Currently, Kulbhushan Jadhav is lodged in a Pakistani jail. ———————– Also read this news related to India and Pakistan… India said – Pakistan is a failed country: survives on donation money, its speech in UN reeks of hypocrisy Pakistan has been accusing of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
