Mock drills will be conducted at 244 places tomorrow amid tension with Pakistan: Ways to avoid attack will be taught, advice to keep torch and cash; see list of cities

Amid tension with Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, mock drills on war prevention methods will be conducted in 244 areas of the country on Wednesday (7 May). The Home Ministry has listed these areas as civil defense districts. These are different from the general administrative districts. Civil defense districts have been divided into 3 categories based on their sensitivity. Category-1 is the most sensitive and category-3 is less sensitive. The Home Ministry had issued orders to all states to conduct mock drills on 5 May. The preparations for the mock drill were reviewed in a high-level meeting held today at the Home Ministry in Delhi. Many high rank officers including the Chief Secretaries and Civil Defense Chiefs of the states were present in it. The Home Ministry’s order for mock drills Civil defense districts are different from administrative districts The Home Ministry released the list of districts for mock drills on Tuesday. In these, districts have been divided on the basis of state-wise sensitivity. A total of 244 civil defense districts of 25 states of the country have been placed between category-1 to 3. In fact, the Ministry of Home Affairs has created 259 civil defense districts in a total of 35 states and union territories of the country. It is not necessary that these civil defense districts are normal administrative districts. For example, a total of 19 civil defense districts have been created in Uttar Pradesh. These also include administrative districts like Kanpur, Lucknow, Mathura, and areas like Bakshi-ka-Talab, Sarwasa which are in Lucknow and Saharanpur. There is an Air Force station here. Apart from this, keep cash with you, because mobile and digital transactions can fail in emergency.
