In Gurugram, Industry and Commerce, Environment, Forest and Wildlife Minister Rao Narbir Singh said that the Haryana government will help the central government in cleaning the Yamuna river. We are ensuring that the water that goes to Yamuna from Haryana goes clean. I have focused on cleaning the water wherever it connects to Yamuna from Haryana. He was talking to journalists in Civil Lines after inspecting the STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) channels of Dhankot and Kaliavas areas. Earlier, he took stock of the condition of STP channels passing through Dhankot, Kaliavas, Badhsa AIIMS, Drain No. 8, Mundakheda Pump House, Yakubpur and MET along with the officials of the Irrigation Department. Farmers are getting treated water Rao Narbir Singh said that the farmers of Farrukhnagar and Pataudi areas in the district should play their important role by participating in the government’s efforts to conserve water. For this, a plan is being worked out to provide STP treated water to about 30 villages of the region for farming and gardening. He said that everyone should participate in this meaningful effort of the government, in this regard he himself will communicate with the farmers of the region next week. The functioning of all STPs should be investigated. Minister Rao Narbir Singh directed the officials to further strengthen the sewage management and drainage system. He ordered to take strict action against the dirty sewage water being dumped in the open and to investigate the functioning of all STPs. Rao Narbir Singh said that to include Gurugram in the top 10 cities of the country, special attention will have to be paid to cleanliness and infrastructure. Encroachment and use of polythene should be banned in the district. He inspected till Jhajjar. Today he has inspected the STP channel from Gurugram to Jhajjar. Currently, 75 MLD water is being released in this drain having a capacity of 500 MLD out of the total capacity of 218 MLD of Dhanwapur. Which is being used by farmers in Jhajjar district for farming. He said that through modern treated water techniques, STP water has now become safe and useful for farming. The decline in groundwater level will be stopped. This will stop the decline in groundwater level and farmers will also get an alternative source for irrigation. He told that instructions have been given to the concerned departments to make farmers aware about the use of this water and also provide necessary technical assistance. He said that the aim of the government is to increase the productivity of farmers while maintaining environmental balance and ensure conservation of water resources. Officials should spend more time in the field. Instructions were given to the officials of the irrigation department to spend more time in the field, so that local problems can be solved quickly. During this visit, the minister also reviewed the progress of the development projects going on in the area and asked the officials to complete the work in a time bound manner. Instructions to Pollution Control Board to take action on violations Rao Narbir Singh said that he has instructed the officials of Haryana State Pollution Control Board to ensure that only the treated water of STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) is compulsorily used in all construction works. He said that the use of ground water in construction works is also an important reason for the water crisis. To prevent this, this step is extremely necessary. Wherever violation of rules is found, immediate and strict action should be taken against the concerned builder or construction agency. – Builders’ STP will be inspected, if deficiencies are found, challan will be issued He said that our government is fully committed towards environmental protection and conservation of water resources. He said that the officials have also been instructed to conduct a thorough inspection of the STP installed by the builders in their project premises. The Environment Minister said that it has come to his notice that various builders have installed STPs in their premises but they are not maintaining them properly. He said that the officers have been directed to inspect such STPs and ensure challan action against them as per rules. The Haryana Government will ensure that only treated water is released into the Yamuna. He said that the Central Government is completely serious about pollution and is fully committed to make the rivers of the country clean. He said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has resolved that within the next five years, the Yamuna River will be completely cleaned. In this direction, all the concerned states have been directed to take concrete steps for pollution control. The Environment Minister said that the State Government will work shoulder to shoulder with the Central Government in this national resolution. He clarified that the Haryana Government will fully contribute in making the Yamuna clean. He said that in this context, the State Pollution Control Board has also been directed to regularly monitor the water sources and identify any source of pollution and ensure immediate action. He said that he himself will inspect the Badshahpur drain in Gurugram next week. Two new STPs of 100 MLD each will be built. The Environment Minister informed that at present three STPs of 218 MLD capacity are functioning in Dhanwapur and two STPs of 170 MLD capacity are functioning in Bahrampur. Along with this, taking an important initiative towards strengthening urban waste water management, two new sewage treatment plants (STPs) of 100 MLD capacity each will be set up in Bahrampur by the year 2028. The two new STPs will not only ensure effective purification of the city’s waste water but will also prove to be a milestone in the direction of cleanliness of water sources and environmental protection.
