Pakistan, which spreads terror, has a big responsibility in UNSC: Taliban became the chairman of the sanctions committee, also the vice-chairman of the anti-terrorism committee

Pakistan has been appointed as the chairman of the Taliban Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday. The Taliban Sanctions Committee is also known as the 1988 Committee. Guyana and Russia will serve as vice-chairs of this committee. This committee takes decisions such as freezing economic assets, travel and arms bans of those individuals, groups and entities that are considered a threat to the peace, stability and security of Afghanistan. Pakistan is trying to improve relations with the Taliban. Pakistan will now chair meetings related to the Taliban Sanctions Committee, prepare recommendations and help build consensus among members. The Taliban Sanctions Committee previously monitored terrorists associated with ISIL and al-Qaeda. It was later reorganized separately in 2011 under UNSC resolution 1988 so that it could focus on the Taliban. According to reports, if Pakistan takes strict action against the Taliban after getting the command of the committee banning the Taliban, then it may affect its relations. Pakistan has got this responsibility at a time when it is trying to improve relations with the Taliban. Only last month, the foreign ministers of Taliban and Pakistan met through China. The Anti-Terrorism Committee does not have the right to punish Apart from this, Pakistan has also been made the vice-chairman of the Anti-Terrorism Committee (1373 Counter Terrorism Committee). Algeria has been made the chairman of the Anti-Terrorism Committee. France and Russia have been made vice-chairman of the committee along with Pakistan. The Anti-Terrorism Committee does not have the right to punish or take action on its own, but it monitors the activities of member countries and suggests them what steps they should take against terrorism. The chairmanship of the committee changes every year and this role is given to a member country. Algeria has got the chairmanship of this committee in 2025, while 3 countries including Pakistan have been made vice-chairman. India chaired this committee in 2022. This chairmanship was given to India after being elected as a temporary member for 2021-2022. Both the Taliban Sanctions Committee and the Anti-Terrorism Committee are committees of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), but their work and scope are different. The Anti-Terrorism Committee helps fight terrorism all over the world. At the same time, the job of the Taliban Sanctions Committee is to ban terrorists who pose a threat to the peace and security of Afghanistan. India has repeatedly raised the issue that Pakistan shelters the largest number of United Nations designated terrorists and terrorist organizations. For example, Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was found hiding in Abbottabad, Pakistan and was killed in a US Navy SEAL operation in 2011. It is worth noting that Pakistan is a temporary member of the 15-nation United Nations Security Council for the term 2025-26. The Security Council has five permanent members – China, France, Russia, Britain and the US. Apart from Pakistan, the current non-permanent members are Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Panama, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Somalia. —————————————- Read this news too… Journalist caught Bilawal’s lie in UN: Bhutto had said- India tarnished the image of Muslims under the guise of Pahalgam attack.
