On Monday, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had issued an official notice to all the residents of the landless camp in Kalkaji Extension in South Delhi. This notice, issued after the order of the High Court, instructed to vacate the premises due to bulldozer action against illegal huts. According to the notice, the residents have been asked to voluntarily vacate the houses and shops within three days. The notice states that demolition action will be taken if this is not followed. The DDA further wrote that the goods left inside the huts during the demolition will be removed and the agency will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal property. The DDA has appealed to the residents to maintain peace and cooperate with the authorities. On May 7, the High Court rejected the rehabilitation petition of 1,355 residents. The summer bench of Justice Dharmesh Sharma has told the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) that it is free to demolish the landless camp. The petitioners argued that they have been living here since 1990. In such a situation, the government should be directed to rehabilitate them. The bench clarified in the order that only those families who fulfill the conditions set by the concerned department are entitled to get the benefit of the rehabilitation policy. Survey was done in 2015 and 2019
A policy was prepared in the year 2015 for the removal of slums from the capital and their rehabilitation. Due to this, a joint inspection of the landless camp was done in the year 2015 and 2019.
