7 blasts in Balochistan in 24 hours: Militants target Quetta and Dera Murad; railway tracks blown up with IED blasts

Seven consecutive blasts have occurred in Pakistan’s Balochistan province over the past 24 hours. Suspected militants targeted several locations in Quetta and Dera Murad Jamali. No one was killed in the blasts, but two security guards at a construction company were injured. On Saturday, a police checkpoint in Quetta was attacked with a hand grenade. This was followed by an IED explosion near an Anti-Terrorism Department (ATD) vehicle. Three more blasts occurred by evening. According to Quetta SSP Asif Khan, armed men threw grenades at a construction company camp on Sariab Road, injuring two guards. Motorcycle-borne attackers also hurled two grenades at the Manzoor Shaheed police station. One exploded on the spot, the other was defused by a bomb squad. An IED also blew up a railway track near Lohar Karez on the outskirts of the city. A police vehicle was also attacked with a grenade. A police patrol vehicle was also attacked in Dera Murad Jamali. Grenades were also thrown near a police post in the Kech Beg area of ​​Quetta. No organization has claimed responsibility for these attacks. Balochistan has previously witnessed several major attacks. So far this year, 782 people have been killed. In March, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked a train and killed several soldiers. According to the report, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are the most terror-affected areas in Pakistan, accounting for 90% of all terrorist incidents across the country. The report ranked Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan as Pakistan’s most dangerous terrorist organization for the second consecutive year. In 2024, the group carried out 482 attacks, resulting in 558 deaths, a 91% increase from 2023.
