Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood has set a major domestic record. He broke former Indian opener Virender Sehwag’s 19-year-old record by scoring the fastest double century in first-class cricket on Pakistani soil. Masood achieved this feat on Monday in the 2025/26 President’s Trophy Grade I match being played in Karachi. The match is being played between Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sahir Associates, in which Masood plays for SNGPL. Masood reached his double century in just 177 balls. Previously, Virender Sehwag had scored a double century against Pakistan in Lahore in 2006, taking 182 balls. Inzamam-ul-Haq’s record also broken
Shan Masood also broke Pakistan’s record for the fastest double century. Previously, this record was held by Inzamam-ul-Haq, who scored a double century off 188 balls in 1992. 390-Run Partnership
SNGPL was put into bat first on the first day of the match. Their first wicket fell at 53, in the form of Azan Awais. Shan Masood and Ali Zaryab then shared a massive 390-run partnership for the second wicket. This partnership is the ninth-highest partnership for any wicket in Pakistan. Ali Zaryab scored 192 runs off 237 balls, while Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 212 runs off 185 balls at the end of the day’s play. His strike rate was over 114. This is Shan Masood’s second first-class double century in 2025. Earlier, he had scored 250 runs for Karachi Blues against Abbottabad.
