The Chittagong Court in Bangladesh has ordered the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. This order was given in the case of murder of Chittagong Court lawyer Saifullah Islam Alif. The lawyer was allegedly murdered outside the court premises on November 7 last year. Three other applications related to this case will be heard on Tuesday. The Metropolitan Magistrate of Chittagong accepted the police application for arrest and passed the order during a virtual hearing. 21 people still in jail in the lawyer’s death case
Saiful Islam alias Alif was an Assistant Public Prosecutor in Chittagong. After his death inside the court premises, Chittagong Lawyers Association President Nazim Uddin Chowdhury had alleged that the protesters had taken Saifullah from the chamber and killed him. The police had arrested a total of 51 people in 6 cases related to this case. The main accused in this are Chandan Das, Ripan Das, Rajiv Bhattacharya and others. 21 people arrested in this case are still in jail. Bangladesh Supreme Court also stayed the release of Chinmay Das Earlier on April 30, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh stayed the High Court’s order granting bail to Chinmay Das in a sedition case just hours after it was issued. This order was given after hearing a petition filed by the state government’s lawyer. The Dhaka High Court granted bail to Chinmay Das, who is in jail, in the case of insulting the national flag. Chinmay Das has been in jail for the last 5 months on charges of sedition. Chinmay’s lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya filed a bail petition in the High Court on April 23. Police arrested him from the airport while going to Chittagong Bangladesh Police arrested Chinmay Krishna Das Brahmachari from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on November 25 last year. He was then going to Chittagong. ISKCON members present at the spot said that the DB Police did not show any arrest warrant. They just said that they wanted to talk. After this, they took him away in a microbus. Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police had said that Chinmay Krishna Das was arrested after the request of the police.
