The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has sought new information from the US government through the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) in the case involving Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Sources said these questions have been requested several months after Rana was brought to India and questioned. This will strengthen the investigation into the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The request was sent through the Ministry of Home Affairs and passed to the US by the Indian Embassy in Washington. Rana is accused of conspiring with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad to carry out the Mumbai attacks, which killed 166 people and injured over 238. Recently, the NIA filed a new charge sheet against Rana in a special court in Delhi. It includes documents related to Rana’s extradition to India and new evidence. On April 10, Rana was extradited from the US to India and arrested by the NIA. He arrived in Delhi by a special plane. Pakistani journalist murdered for speaking in support of Israel, shot by extremists Imtiaz Mir, a TV journalist and anchor, was shot dead on September 21st in Karachi, Pakistan. Sindh provincial Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar recently stated that the motive for the murder was the journalist’s pro-Israel stance. He was considered a supporter of Israel by extremist Islamic groups. Police have arrested four suspects in the case. They are Ajlal Zaidi, Shahab Asghar, Ahsan Abbas, and Faraz Ahmed. They are affiliated with a group called “Lashkar Sarullah,” which is part of the banned Zainabiyoun Brigade. Sindh Police Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon and Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho stated that all four have confessed to the murder. The US changed work-permit rules overnight, impacting H-1B visa holders the most. The US Department of Homeland Security issued an order on Thursday that would prevent automatic extensions of foreign workers’ employment cards (EADs). Previously, if a new application was submitted on time, the old card would remain valid even after it expired. However, this feature has now been discontinued. This rule was implemented overnight without any warning or public opinion. This will cause the greatest hardship to spouses of H-1B visa holders, post-study work students, and asylum seekers. Now, a thorough security check will be conducted before each new card is issued. The government says this will prevent fraud and catch fraudsters. Previously, under Biden’s tenure, H-4 visa holders (spouses of H-1B holders) and students working on OPTs were eligible for this exemption. US officials stated that working in the US is a privilege, not a right. Indians will be most affected, as 71% of H-1B visas are granted to Indians. India also represents the largest number of foreign students in the United States. These students’ path to post-graduate employment will now be difficult. Delays in obtaining new cards will disrupt their employment. Most H-4 visa applicants are spouses of H-1B employees. They provide financial support for their families. Their jobs are now at risk. People have been advised to submit new applications 180 days before their cards expire. The longer they delay, the more work will be disrupted. According to Global News, when Arvi asked the man what was happening, he was attacked. According to eyewitnesses, the accused men first verbally abused and then brutally beat Saggu, knocking him to the ground. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, where doctors declared him dead. Police have arrested 40-year-old Kyle Papin and charged him with aggravated assault. Police emphasized that the attacker and the victim did not know each other. Papin will next appear in court on November 4. The US Senate passed a resolution against imposing tariffs on Canada, with members of Trump’s party also supporting it. The resolution aimed to eliminate Trump’s authority to impose tariffs on Canada. This move follows the recent decision to impose an additional 10% tariff on Canada. According to The Hill, the resolution passed by a vote of 50-46. Four Republican lawmakers also supported the resolution, voting in favor of eliminating the tariffs. The Senate had previously passed this resolution on April 2, but the House of Representatives did not advance it, stalling the process. Democratic lawmaker Tim Kaine has now reintroduced it. He argues that Trump’s tariffs on Canada have no legal justification because they cannot be invoked under the Emergency Act. The dispute between Trump and Canada escalated when the Canadian province of Ontario ran a television advertisement during the World Series, in which former US President Ronald Reagan opposed the tariffs. Trump, calling it a hostile move, imposed an additional 10% tariff on Canadian goods.
