TVK chief and actor Vijay accused of infidelity: Wife Sangeetha files for divorce after 25 years

Sangeetha Sornalingam, wife of renowned South Indian actor and Tamilnaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Thalapathy Vijay, has filed a petition in the family court seeking divorce after 25 years of marriage. She alleges that Vijay’s relationships with officials and individuals have severely impacted their marital life. According to an India Today report, Sangeetha filed the petition in the Chennagapattu Family Court, stating that Vijay faces serious allegations of infidelity, and that she no longer wishes to live with him. Previously, the couple were frequently seen together in the media, but Sangeetha’s divorce petition has sparked debate in both Tamil cinema and politics. The court has described the petition against Vijay as a developing case, and arguments from both sides will be heard during the hearing. Vijay and Sangeetha first met in the late 1990s. Sangeetha lived in the UK at the time and was a huge fan of Vijay. It is said that she arrived in Chennai during the shooting of one of his films and expressed her desire to meet him on set. During the meeting, Sangeeta told Vijay that she was a regular viewer of his films. This conversation gradually blossomed into a friendship. Later, with the consent of both families, the relationship progressed and they married on August 25, 1999. After marriage, Sangeeta mostly stayed out of the limelight, but has been seen with Vijay at family and public events. The couple has two children: son Jason Sanjay, who has studied filmmaking, and daughter Divya Sasha. After a long film career spanning 33 years, Vijay announced on January 30, 2026, that he was retiring from acting and would now focus solely on politics. His last film, “Jana Nayakan,” was scheduled to release on January 9, 2026, but it has not yet been released. The film has not yet received a censor certificate. The makers previously submitted the film to the Censor Board, but the board refused to issue a certificate, and the matter reached the Madras High Court. The Censor Board’s Revising Committee has yet to review the film, so a final certificate has not been granted, preventing a release date.
