The Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed on 25 December. 38 people died in it. Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev held Russia responsible for this accident. President Aliyev had accused Russia of covering up the matter. He said that Russia suppressed the matter for a long time and now Russian officials are trying to cover up the entire incident. Aliyev has made three demands from Russia regarding the Azerbaijan plane crash. He said – First, the Russian side should apologize to Azerbaijan. Second, it should admit its mistake. Third, along with punishing the culprits, Russia should compensate the Azerbaijan government, the families of the deceased and the injured passengers. Aliyev said that the first demand has ‘already been met’ because Putin has apologized, but the remaining two demands are still pending. Earlier, Putin had described the accident as a ‘tragic incident’. Why was Russia accused of crashing the plane? Russian military blogger Yuri Podolyaka told news agency AFP that the holes seen in the wreckage of the plane could be from anti-aircraft missile systems. He said that the damage suggests that the plane may have accidentally hit an air defense missile system. Defense expert James J Marlow wrote on social media that he has received information that when this accident happened, the Russian defense system was intercepting the Ukrainian drone in Grozny. If this is true, then it is possible that the defense system mistook the plane for a drone and attacked it by mistake. Earlier theories about the plane crash… 1. This aircraft is single-aisle i.e. it has seats on both sides and a gallery in the middle.
