David Dhawan’s challenge to OTT actors: Said- Come to the theatre and show your worth, on OTT you don’t know whether the film was a hit or a flop

Veteran filmmaker David Dhawan has challenged the actors of OTT. In an interview, the director said that actors are secure on OTT. Their real status is known only in the theatre. Talking about himself, David said that he has become very choosy and now makes only selective films. He is not at all impressed by this era of OTT. He considers OTT as just another medium. Actors have become secure these days: David

In an interview, when host Arbaaz Khan asked David if he thinks the charm of cinema has diminished with the advent of OTT culture? The director said- ‘Not at all. I will tell you one thing. Actors of today have become very secure. They do OTT films with safety. It is not known how much the film did, how much it did not do…’ ‘They are afraid of the media’

David further said- ‘You come to the theatre and show your status. He is afraid.. he does not do films that are released in theatres. He is afraid of the media. In our time, there was applause in theatres. You cannot get that kind of reaction on OTT.’ The last film was released in 2020
The interesting thing is that the last film ‘Coolie No. 1’ directed by David himself was also released on OTT. Released in 2020, this film had Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. It was badly rejected by the audience. It is being discussed that David is currently working on his next film with son Varun. It is a romantic-comedy film named ‘Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai’. It is to be released in October 2025. However, no official announcement has been made about it yet.
