In Maharashtra, Manoj Jarange is demanding Maratha reservation. Jarange is constantly accusing Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis of obstructing the Maratha reservation. On this, Fadnavis said in a press conference on Monday (August 19) that if CM Eknath Shinde considers me an obstacle in reservation, then I will leave politics. On the question of obstructing Maratha reservation, Fadnavis says that no Deputy Chief Minister is bigger than the Chief Minister. Both of us work together. Jarange Patil should meet Shinde ji himself and ask about this. If CM Eknath Shinde ji says that I am an obstacle in reservation, then I will resign and leave politics. It is wrong to deliberately fabricate such a story. Jarange had said – Deputy CM put pressure to stop reservation
Jarange had fasted for Maratha reservation in Antarwali Sarti of Jalna in July last year. During this, Jarange had accused Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and his cabinet colleague Chhagan Bhujbal of stopping the reservation. Jarange had said that both of them have put pressure on the government for not resolving the Maratha reservation issue. Jarange had also blamed Fadnavis for the lathicharge on the crowd of workers during the fast. It was decided in the all-party meeting – Maratha reservation should be given
In the all-party meeting chaired by CM Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra on November 1, 2023, all the parties agreed that the Maratha community must get reservation. Leaders of 32 parties including Sharad Pawar attended this meeting. After the meeting, CM Shinde had said – It has been decided that reservation should be within the ambit of law and without doing injustice to other communities. An appeal is made to Manoj Jarange, who is on a hunger strike for reservation, to end the fast. Violence is not right. OBC community against giving Kunbi certificate to Marathas
The decision to give separate reservation to the Maratha community was canceled by the Supreme Court. After this, many people including Manoj Jarange Patil are claiming that the Maratha community is originally from the Kunbi caste. That is, if the Maratha community is given a Kunbi certificate, then it will get the benefit of OBC quota on getting reservation. At present, the reservation from OBC quota in the state is 19 percent. Organizations of OBC community believe that if Maratha community is also included in it, then new people will get the benefit of reservation. Our opposition is not to Maratha reservation but to giving them reservation from OBC.
