A luxury yacht named Bayesian sank on Monday morning near Sicily Island in Italy. There were 22 people on board the 184 feet long yacht. These included 10 crew members and 12 passengers from America, Britain and Canada. The wreckage of the yacht has been identified. It was found at a depth of 50 meters in the sea. According to the New York Times, the cook deployed on the yacht has died and 6 are missing. Britain’s famous software businessman Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah are also among the missing people. Businessman Lynch’s wife Angela Backares has been rescued. She was the owner of the sunken yacht Bayesian. Morgan Stanley International President Jonathan Bloomer and his wife were also on board the yacht. They are also being searched for. Bloomer is a close friend of Lynch. His lawyer, who has been fighting Lynch’s case for many years, is also missing. Location where the yacht sank… 15 people were rescued
An Italian coastguard official told the BBC that at 5 am, strong waves arose due to the storm, due to which the yacht sank. The yacht was anchored about 18 km away from Palermo, the capital of Sicily. Yachts are designed to withstand storms, but it is not yet clear under what circumstances this yacht sank. Some information will be available only after talking to the crew members admitted in the hospital. However, some reports say that due to the winds, one of the masts of the boat broke, due to which the balance of the yacht got disturbed and it overturned. The coastguard official said that there was another yacht from the Netherlands near the yacht which helped in saving the lives of 15 people. Those who were rescued alive also include a one-year-old girl who has been admitted to the hospital along with her parents. Scientist said- Yacht sank due to global warming
Italian meteorologist Luca Merkley said that this yacht must have sunk due to global warming. The scientist told news agency Reuters that Italy experienced severe heat for several weeks. Now there are severe storms and rains. This is happening due to global warming. At the time of the accident, the sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius, which is about 3 degrees more than normal. This is also the reason for the big storms. Mike Lynch was called Britain’s Bill Gates
Missing Mike Lynch (59) was called Britain’s Bill Gates for a long time. He founded a software company Autonomy Corporation in 1996. It used to do data analysis of companies. His company progressed a lot. Lynch became very famous in the business world. Due to this, he was also made the economic advisor of Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron. At the same time, seeing the success of Autonomy, in 2011, computer manufacturing company HP bought it for $ 11.7 billion. This was Europe’s biggest technology deal then. However, shortly after, HP accused him of fraud. HP alleged that Lynch sold the company at a higher price than necessary. Lynch should return 5 billion dollars. HP appealed for Lynch’s extradition to the US. This case lasted for 12 years. In May 2023, he had to go to the US. He was detained in San Francisco jail for 13 months. Lynch argued that HP liked his company and bought it only after finding out everything. He neither hatched any conspiracy for this nor did he commit any fraud. Acquitted in June 2024, still owns assets worth 500 million
Lynch was acquitted of all 15 charges in June 2024. If he had been found guilty of fraud, he would have had to spend 25 years in a US jail. However, he suffered a lot due to being stuck in court cases for 12 years. After being released from jail, Lynch said that he got into a lot of trouble because of the extradition treaty between the US and the UK. He said that because of this law, an American lawyer has more power than the British police. Even if a British police wants to, it cannot protect a British citizen in a fake case. According to the Sunday Times Rich List of 2004, Lynch’s assets were said to be around 500 million pounds (5.4 thousand crores rupees). Lynch’s partner Chamberlain also died
Just hours after Lynch’s disappearance, it was revealed that his partner in the case, Stephen Chamberlain, had died in a car accident in Cambridgeshire. He died on Saturday but this information was received on Monday. Both Lynch and Chamberlain were acquitted by the court last month.
