Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, 23 August, asked 10 questions to the Congress regarding the Congress and National Conference (NC) alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, ‘The Congress party, which has repeatedly played with the unity and security of the country in its greed for power, has once again put its intentions in front of the country by forming an alliance with NC in the Jammu and Kashmir elections.’ Shah asked whether the Congress supports the National Conference’s promise of a separate flag in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing back Article 370 and pushing the state back into the era of unrest and terrorism. Meanwhile, the BJP meeting is going on in Delhi regarding the Jammu and Kashmir elections. The Election Commission announced the dates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on August 16. Voting will be held in three phases in the state. There are a total of 90 assembly seats here. The majority figure is 46. According to the Election Commission, the gazette notification for the first phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir will start from August 20. The last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in 2014. Then BJP and PDP formed a coalition government. The government fell after the alliance broke in 2018. After this, Governor’s rule remained in the state for 6 months (according to the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution at that time). After this, President’s rule came into force. The 2019 Lok Sabha elections were held amid President’s rule, in which BJP returned to the Center with a huge majority. After this, on 5 August 2019, the BJP government abolished Article 370 and divided the state into two union territories (Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh). In this way, assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years.
