The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the new schedule of the Women’s T20 World Cup. The tournament will start from October 3 and will run till October 20. The India-Pakistan match will be held in Dubai on October 6. The final will also be played in this stadium. The Women’s T20 World Cup was earlier to be played in Bangladesh, but after the political coup in the country, the ICC shifted the tournament to UAE. Now all the matches of the tournament will be held in Sharjah and Dubai. India’s first match will be with New Zealand
The opening match will be held between Bangladesh and Scotland in Sharjah on October 3. India Women’s team will play its first match against New Zealand in Dubai on October 4. The team will then take on Pakistan on the same ground on October 6. Pakistan will play its first match against Sri Lanka on October 3 itself. 10 teams divided into 2 groups
In the tournament, 10 teams have been divided into 2 groups of 5-5. After the group stage, there will be 2 semi-finals on 17th and 18th October between the top 2 teams of the points table. While the final will be played in Dubai on 20th October. 23 matches will be played in Sharjah and Dubai within 18 days. There will be 20 group stage matches in 13 days, out of which there will be double headers on 7 days. Double header means 2 matches in a day. 3 knockout matches will be played in the last 5 days. The first semi-final will be held in Dubai on 17th October and the second semi-final will be held in Sharjah on 18th October. The final will be held in Dubai on 20th October. India is in Group-A
India Women’s team has been placed in Group-A along with Pakistan. Defending champions Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are also in this group. Team India will take on Sri Lanka in Dubai on 9th October and Australia in Sharjah on 13th October. The last match of the group stage will be played between England and West Indies on 15th October. Both teams are in Group-B. Bangladesh, Scotland and South Africa are also in this group. South Africa is the previous runner-up, the team was defeated by Australia on its home ground. Australia is a 6-time champion
The Women’s T20 World Cup started in 2009, when England won the title by defeating New Zealand. Since then the tournament has been played 8 times, Australia has been successful 6 times and West Indies once. India has not won the tournament even once. The team reached the final for the only time in 2020, but missed out on winning the title after losing to Australia.
