3500 year old pot broke in Israel’s museum: 4 year old child dropped it, father said – he wanted to see what was in it

On Friday (23 August), a 3500-year-old pot broke due to the mistake of a four-year-old child in a museum in Israel. The incident took place at the Hekt Museum located at Haifa University in Israel. According to the BBC, Alex had come to visit the museum with his four-year-old son. Here his son accidentally dropped an antique pot. This broke the pot. Alex said, “My son wanted to see what was inside the pot. So he tried to pull the pot, which caused it to fall. After this I told the security officer there about this.” The pot was from the Bronze Age
The museum staff said that this pot is from the Bronze Age. That is, it is even before the era of King Solomon. It is believed that it must have been made between about 2200 and 1500 BC. Its features match the objects related to ancient Canaan. This area currently includes parts of Israel and Palestine. The staff said that it is estimated that the pot would have been used to carry wine and olive oil. He said that often the utensils found during excavations are broken or incomplete. This utensil was found intact, so it was very valuable. It was kept near the main gate of the museum. Although this utensil will be repaired again, it will not be the same as before. Artefacts are kept without glass in the Hect Museum. Glass is not kept in front of all archaeological objects in the Hect Museum. The museum’s general director Dr. Inbal Rivlin said that its founder Dr. Ruben Hect started this practice. He believed that this would help people feel the historical objects closely. Dr. Rivlin said that sometimes objects are deliberately damaged. Action is taken in such cases. However, this was not the case in this case. He said that the child and his family have been invited to visit the museum again. Such incidents have happened in many museums. Such incidents have happened in many museums around the world. In 2010, a woman collided with a Picasso painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. In another similar case, a child pulled down a statue at the Shanghai Museum of Glass in 2016.
