35-year-old Jay Shah was elected chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, 27 August. Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave believes that Jay Shah’s success in broadcast deals and organizing big events was the reason for him being elected unopposed chairman. Talking to the media, Grave said, “If you look at Jay’s leadership in BCCI, it has been fantastic. He has hosted the Women’s Premier League, successfully hosted the 50-over World Cup in India and done big broadcast deals for IPL and BCCI. Jay Shah accepts the issues – Grave
He further said, Shah got the support of 15 out of 16 members in the nomination phase. This is the kind of support that Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan or Shashank Manohar did not get in the ICC. From whatever I have read about Jay after taking charge, it seems that he accepts the issues. This is a good sign for the ICC. Jay Shah will take over as ICC Chairman on December 1
