Since the war in Gaza began, there have been many complaints of hatred being spread from these mosques. They are accused of calling such clerics and preachers who spew venom against Israel and Jews. After the Labour government came to power in July, there has been a crackdown on this. The UK government has ordered an investigation into the activities and funding of more than 24 such mosques. According to the report, the decision to investigate the funding of these mosques was taken after the hate speeches went viral. Helen Stephenson, head of the Charity Commission, which is investigating the case, told Dainik Bhaskar, “We are investigating this and also considering whether mosques that violate the rules should be stripped of their charitable status.” Speeches spreading hate and violence in the name of preaching Abu Ibrahim Hussain, a cleric of Birmingham’s Mohammadi Mosque, told the worshippers, “O Muslims, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.” Mohammadi Trust has received 12 lakh grants from the government in the last two years. A grant of Rs. 10 lakhs has been received. In Tauheed Mosque in East London, cleric Sheikh Suhaib Hasan justified Hamas’ attack on Israel. In another mosque in Liverpool, a cleric said that if “three Arab Muslims attack Israel, that area will be completely destroyed.” Jewish activists have submitted many evidences to the investigation agency. Several Jewish activists have prepared a dossier of hate sermons given in mosques in Britain and shared it with the British police. The mosques under investigation in Britain are run by people of Pakistani origin. Sermons given from these mosques gave violent messages such as ‘destroy Israel’, ‘kill Jews’ and ‘wage war for Allah’. According to British law, people found guilty of supporting Hamas or its members can be sentenced to up to 14 years in prison.
