Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu of the film ‘Kaarib Kaarib Single’ fame has given her statement on the dissolution of the Malayalam Movie-Artists Association (AMMA). The actress called it a cowardly act and said that there is dictatorship in the film association. She also said that once she too had happily resigned from this association because people are not allowed to speak there. Last Tuesday, 17 members including AMMA President and South Superstar Mohanlal resigned from their posts. The decision to dissolve the association was taken after the Hema Committee report came out. A complaint of sexual harassment was made against three AMMA members, actors Siddiqui and Baburaj and director Ranjit, after which cases have been registered against them. They resigned when they had to answer: Parvathy
In an interview to Barkha Dutt, the actress said, ‘The first thing that came to my mind after hearing the news of resignation of 17 members of the association was that this is such a cowardly act. All these members resigned from their posts when they had to answer many questions from the media. ‘They welcomed the main accused’
The actress further said, ‘It would have been great if they had at least worked with the government and resolved this matter, but this is the same executive committee that once welcomed the main accused (actor Dileep) in the sexual abuse case.’ ‘No one cares about our career and mental health issues’
While talking on this matter, Parvati also called the government careless. The actress said, ‘The government is also giving very irresponsible statements. It is saying that if women have any complaint, they should file an FIR and come forward. Is the responsibility of everything only on women? After doing this, do you take the responsibility that you will get us justice? You are asking us to come out openly
no one cares about our career, life and mental health issues. I myself have been a part of AMMA: Parvati
On this occasion, the actress also told that she too was once a part of this association. Parvati said, ‘This is not surprising for me. I myself have been a part of AMMA and I have seen how they work. I happily resigned at that time.’ Hema Committee report came out on 19 August
These days there is a lot of turmoil in the Malayalam film industry. On August 19, Justice Hema Committee submitted a 233-page report to the Kerala government, in which exploitation by many big artists came to light.
