SC judge said- mobocracy is emerging in society: Leaders promise to hang criminals, while it is the job of the judiciary to take the decision

Supreme Court Justice Abhay Oka said on Sunday that ‘mobocracy’ is emerging in the society. When an incident happens, leaders try to take advantage of it. They go to that place and promise the public that the accused will be hanged, but it is not their job to decide this. Only the judiciary has the power to take this decision. Justice Oka attended a conference organized by the Bar Council of Maharashtra in Pune. Here he spoke on the importance of maintaining the independence of the judiciary and giving quick and fair decisions. He also said that the judiciary is criticized unnecessarily due to granting bail in many cases. Mamata Banerjee had said – will change rape laws, so that the criminals get hanged

While commenting on mob rule, Justice Oka did not name anyone, but his comment has come at a time when after the Kolkata rape-murder and the sexual exploitation of two schoolgirls in Badlapur, Maharashtra, there is a demand for giving the harshest punishment to the criminals. On Saturday (August 31), Union Minister Ramdas Athawale had demanded death penalty for the criminals involved in the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. A few days before this, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had promised that she would change the existing law, so that death penalty can be ensured for rape criminals. Justice Oka said – Independence of judiciary has to be maintained
He said that if judiciary has to be respected, then its independence has to be maintained. The Constitution will be followed only when lawyers and judiciary remain sensitive. Lawyers play an important role in maintaining the justice system, so they have to fulfill their responsibility, otherwise the Constitution will not survive. Justice Varale said – Along with Beti Padhao, emphasis will also have to be given on Beta Padhao. Supreme Court Justice Prasanna Bhalchandra Varale, who was present in the conference, emphasized the importance of maintaining constitutional values through education and awareness. He said that success is achieved only by maintaining one’s values and working hard. Justice Varale said that just knowing or reading the constitution is not enough, we also have to be aware of it. In view of the attacks on women, not only ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ but also ‘Beta Padhao’ has become necessary.
