The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four accused in the IED blast case at Rameswaram Cafe in Bengaluru on March 1. The names of these four are – Mussavir Hussain Shajib, Abdul Matin Ahmed Taha, Maaz Munir Ahmed and Muzammil Sharif. According to the statement issued by the NIA, their handler used to send funds to Taha and Shajib through crypto currency. Using these funds, the accused carried out several terrorist activities in Bengaluru. This includes the IED attack on the BJP state office in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, which failed. This attack was carried out on the occasion of Pran Pratishtha in Ayodhya on January 22. After this, the accused planned the blast in Rameswaram Cafe. The person who helped Shajib was arrested on March 26.
The NIA started the investigation in this case on March 3. During the investigation, the NIA conducted several technical and field investigations in collaboration with state police officials and other agencies. On March 23, the NIA identified Shajib and Taha. Investigation revealed that Shajib had planted the bomb in the cafe. The NIA had said that both Shajib and Taha are part of the ISIS module. This was also confirmed by the members of the module, who were arrested earlier. After the Al-Hind module was exposed in 2020, both were hiding from the police. Taha was wanted in the murder case of Tamil Nadu Police Inspector K. Wilson and stayed with the main suspect in Chennai. The NIA arrested Muzammil Sharif, a resident of Chikkamagaluru, on March 26. Muzammil had provided blast-related material to Shajib and Taha. To arrest Muzammil, the NIA conducted raids in three states – Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. During the search, several digital devices along with some cash were also seized. NIA continuously searched for Shajib and Taha, then they were found in West Bengal 42 days after the cafe blast. Taha and Shajib used to recruit Muslim youth to ISIS
NIA said that both the accused were actively involved in radicalizing other Muslim youth in the ideology of ISIS. The youth they recruited to ISIS included Maaz Munir Ahmed and Muzammil Sharif. Taha and Shajib fraudulently obtained SIM cards and also opened bank accounts. They also used Indian and Bangladeshi identity documents downloaded from the dark web. The accused took idli at the cafe, made payment and kept the bag near the dustbin
During the investigation of the case, CCTV footage showed that a person wearing a mask gets off the bus near the cafe and enters the cafe at 11:30. The accused is between 25 and 30 years old. He had brought a bag. He ordered idli at the cafe, paid at the counter and took a token. After this, at 11:45, he left the bag near the dustbin. An hour later, there was an explosion in this bag through a timer in which 9 people were injured. After the blast, battery, burnt bag and ID cards were found. After the blast, the fire brigade and Whitefield police first told that there was an explosion in the cylinder. He said that when we reached the spot, the glass on the wall of the cafe was broken and scattered on the table. BJP expressed doubt over the explosion and claimed a bomb blast. At 5:30 pm, CM Siddaramaiah himself said – it was a low intensity IED blast. A person left a bag in the cafe, after which the explosion took place.
