The first patient of monkeypox (MPox) has been found in the country. The Union Health Ministry has confirmed this on Monday (September 9). The ministry said that a person who returned from abroad was kept in isolation on suspicion of monkeypox on September 8. Samples were taken and tested, in which the monkeypox strain West African Clade 2 has been confirmed. But this strain is not the strain Clade 1 included in WHO’s Global Health Emergency. In 2022, 30 cases of Clade 2 were found. Today, Union Health Secretary Apoorva Chandra issued an advisory to all states and union territories regarding monkeypox. Chandra said – All states should take health action to prevent the threat of monkeypox. States should follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Health on monkeypox. Action should be taken on the CD-Alert (Communicable Disease Alert) issued by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on monkeypox. Apart from this, states should review the preparedness of their health facilities. Senior officials should take stock of the health facilities in the districts. According to WHO, most cases of monkeypox have been reported in young men, whose average age is 34 years (range 18-44 years). Most of the cases are of infection through sexual contact. After this, there are cases of person-to-person non-sexual contact. The condition of the person in isolation is fine. The Union Health Ministry said that the condition of the person in isolation is fine. His health is being constantly monitored. There is nothing to worry about. As per the protocol, tracing of people who came in contact with the person has been done. His travel history was also taken out. WHO declared monkeypox a health emergency. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a global public health emergency on August 14. On August 20, India issued an alert at all ports, airports in the country as well as the border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. This is the second time in two years that WHO has declared a health emergency regarding monkeypox. According to the WHO report, monkeypox started from the African country Congo. Ten countries of Africa are seriously affected by it. After this, it spread rapidly to neighboring countries. There is a possibility that it can spread to other countries of the world as well. Like corona, it is spreading to different parts of the world through air travel and other means of traveling. WHO is also concerned because different mortality rates have been observed in different outbreaks of monkeypox. Sometimes it has been more than 10%. What is monkeypox? Monkeypox is a viral disease like smallpox. Usually infection with this virus does not have many side effects, but in some cases it can be fatal. Due to this, flu-like symptoms appear and pus-filled wounds appear on the body. According to WHO, 99,176 cases of monkeypox and 208 deaths have been reported in 116 countries globally since 2022. More than 15,600 cases and 537 deaths have been reported this year so far.
