The New Zealand Cricket Board has announced a 15-member team for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The New Zealand Women’s team, popularly known as White Ferns, was announced by two superfans. New Zealand Cricket released a video in which both fans are telling the team with the help of cards. This is not the first time that the New Zealand team has been announced by the fans. Earlier, the team announcement for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 was done by children. The Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in the UAE from 3 to 20 October. Sophie Devine is the captain of the team. This will be Sophie Devine’s last assignment as captain in T20 International cricket. Sophie had already announced that she would step down from captaincy after the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This will be the 9th T20 World Cup for both Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine. Rosemary Mair’s return will strengthen the pace attack. Rosemary Mair did not go on the England tour due to back injury. Off-spinner Leah Kasperek has also been selected. After the New Zealand team was announced for the Women’s T20 World Cup, Sophie Devine said, T20 World Cup has been an important medium in the development of women’s cricket and it is a matter of great honor that I have been playing this tournament since its inception. First match against India on October 4 Australia, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka have been placed in Group A of the tournament. Group B includes teams from South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Scotland. Each team will play four group matches in the tournament. The top two teams from each group will enter the semi-finals. The final match will be played in Dubai on October 20. The Indian team will start its campaign by playing a match against New Zealand on October 4. World Cup shifted from Bangladesh to UAE
The Women’s T20 World Cup was earlier scheduled to be held in Bangladesh, but due to the bad conditions in the country, the tournament was shifted to another country. Now the World Cup will be played in Dubai and Sharjah in UAE. A total of 23 matches will be played at both these places. Defending champions Australia will be eyeing to win their fourth consecutive T20 title.
