Russia is working on a plan to build a nuclear power plant on the moon. This power plant is part of the partnership between Russia and China under which both these countries are planning to build a base on the moon. With its help, the energy needs of the base to be built on the moon will be met. Along with Russia and China, now India also wants to join the plan of this plant. Russian news agency TASS has given this information quoting Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia’s State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Rosatom. At the Eastern Economic Forum held in the Russian city of Vladivostok, Likhachev said that this project is multinational. Our partner countries China and India are also taking interest in this project. Plan to build a nuclear power plant by 2035
Earlier in March, Yuri Borisov, CEO of Russian space agency Roscosmos, said that Russia and China will jointly set up a nuclear power plant on the surface of the moon in 2033-35. Borisov had said that Russia will build a nuclear-powered rocket called Juice to take the power plant to the surface of the moon. It will be a cargo rocket and will be fully automatic. There will be no need for humans to operate it, humans will only have to focus on launching it. The aim of this project of Rosatom is to build a small nuclear power plant on the moon. With its help, 0.5 megawatts of electricity will be generated. This will help in running the base being built on the moon. India also wants to send humans to the moon by 2040
India’s space agency ISRO is working on a plan to send humans to the surface of the moon by 2040. According to the Economic Times, if India works with Russia to build a nuclear power plant on the moon, it will also help in its moon mission. Apart from this, India wants to build its own space station in space by 2035. India is also working on the Gaganyaan mission. Gaganyaan is India’s first human space flight mission under which four astronauts will go to space. This mission can be launched by 2025. Gaganyaan will have a 3-day mission, under which a team of astronauts will be sent to the Earth’s orbit 400 KM above. After this, the crew module will be safely landed in the sea. If India succeeds in its mission, it will become the fourth country to do so. Earlier, America, China and Russia have done this.
