The central government has further expanded the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Now all the elderly above 70 years of age will get the benefit of this scheme. Under this, treatment up to Rs 5 lakh can be done free of cost every year. On Wednesday, the Modi cabinet has approved this decision. According to the government, 6 crore senior citizens will get the benefit of this scheme. This will include about 4.5 crore families of the country. BJP had made this promise in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that initially Rs 3,437 crore will be spent for the scheme. As people join this scheme, its scope will be increased. The government said that all the elderly of 70 years and above, irrespective of their financial condition, will be able to take advantage of this scheme. A new separate card will be issued for them. Ayushman Bharat is the world’s largest insurance scheme, which provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year to the poorest 40 percent people of the country. Under the National Health Policy, the Central Government started this scheme in the year 2017. However, many states including West Bengal are refusing to accept this scheme and are running their own scheme in the state. Under this scheme, treatment can be done in selected government and private hospitals across the country. There is also a provision to pay the expenses 10 days before and after admission under this scheme. All diseases are covered in this scheme
Chronic diseases are also covered in Ayushman Yojana. Expenses before and after admission in the hospital for any disease are covered in it. Expenses on transport are covered in it. All medical tests, operations, treatment etc. are included in it. So far more than 5.5 crore people have got their treatment done under this scheme.
