Ajinkya Rahane close to century in Irani Cup: Sarfaraz and Shreyas from Mumbai also hit fifties; Mukesh Kumar takes 3 wickets

Mumbai has made a strong hold on the first day of India’s domestic tournament Irani Cup. By the end of the first day’s play, the team scored 237 runs after losing 4 wickets. Captain Ajinkya Rahane remained not out after scoring 86 runs and Sarfaraz Khan remained not out after scoring 54 runs. Shreyas Iyer played an innings of 57 runs from Mumbai. On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar took the maximum of 3 wickets from Rest of India. Mumbai batted first after losing the toss on Tuesday at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. The start was very bad and the team lost 2 wickets at the score of 6 runs. Prithvi Shaw got 4 and Hardik Tamore got caught out without opening the account. Both were sent to the pavilion by Mukesh Kumar. Mukesh then got opener Ayush Mhatre caught behind by Dhruv Jurel. Ayush scored 19 runs with the help of 3 fours in 35 balls. Rahane-Shreyas made a century partnership

After 3 wickets fell early, captain Ajinkya Rahane along with Shreyas Iyer took charge of Mumbai. Both of them completed their respective fifties and also made a century partnership for the fourth wicket. Shreyas had made a fifty, when Yash Dayal got him caught out in the 40th over. Shreyas was out after scoring 57 runs. Rahane-Sarfaraz stayed till the end

After Iyer’s wicket, Sarfaraz Khan came to bat. He also supported the captain and took the team past 200 runs. Only 68 overs could be bowled till the third session on the first day and the umpires had to stop the game due to poor light. The game could not be resumed again, Mumbai has scored 237 runs after losing 4 wickets. From the team, Rahane is not out on 86 and Sarfaraz on 54 runs. The second day’s play will begin at 9:30 am on Tuesday.
