The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has promoted sweepers and peons for the first time in its 85-year history. On Monday, a piping ceremony was organized at many CRPF offices including the CRPF headquarters in Delhi, in which 217 employees were given new ranks. Earlier this year, the central government had given the green signal to the promotion of 2,600 personnel working in the ministerial cadre like sweepers, cooks and water carriers. These personnel are an important part of the basic structure of CRPF. After the government’s decision, CRPF has promoted personnel of this level for the first time. CRPF DG said – there is no shortage in their dedication and service
CRPF Director General (DG) AD Singh and senior officials gave these personnel the uniform of their new rank and congratulated them in the presence of their families. The DG said that every member of the CRPF, no matter what post he holds, plays an important role in ensuring the security of the country. The initiative to promote these personnel is a testament to the fact that dedication and service can come from every corner of our force. He said that 217 personnel were promoted from constable to head constable in this ceremony. The personnel working in these posts were never promoted before. They used to retire in the same rank in which they were recruited after about 30-35 years of service. CRPF has 3.25 lakh personnel on-duty
About 3.25 lakh personnel are currently in service in CRPF. It is known as the premier internal security force of the country and is currently deployed mainly in three combat areas – Left Wing Extremism, counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir and counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast.
