Banner hoisted in New York against attacks on Bangladeshi Hindus: circled the Statue of Liberty; appealed to Americans to boycott Bangladeshi clothes

A banner with the slogan ‘End atrocities on Bangladeshi Hindus’ was seen flying around the Statue of Liberty in New York, USA on Friday. This banner was waved by the Hindu American Group. Sitangshu Guha, a member of the Bangladeshi Hindu Committee, said, “Hindus are on the verge of extinction in Bangladesh. We hope that our efforts will raise awareness and the UN will take action against extremist Islamic forces. If all Hindus are wiped out from Bangladesh, it will become Afghanistan 2.0. The extremists there will also start spreading to India and other parts of the world.” Attacks on Hindus have increased in Bangladesh since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5. According to reports that have come out in the recent past, many cases of violence, kidnapping, lynching and confiscation of property have been reported against 2 lakh Hindus. The Jewish community in America has shown solidarity with the Hindu minorities. Surjeet Chaudhary, a member of the Geeta Sangh, appealed to the Bangladeshi government to stop violence against Hindus and resolve political differences democratically. Apart from this, Americans were also appealed to boycott Bangladeshi garments until the violence stops. Major companies like Walmart, H&M and Gap Inc. are also being appealed to stop shipments. Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus spoke to PM Modi on phone on 17 August. He had said that reports of attacks on Hindus and other minorities have been exaggerated. To check the situation, he invited Indian journalists to visit the country and report the incident from there. When PM Modi raised the issue of safety of minorities, Yunus had said that his government is committed to the safety of all the citizens of the country including minorities.
