Women’s T20 World Cup- New Zealand beat India by 58 runs: Captain Sophie Devine scores half century, Mair takes 4 wickets

India had to face defeat in its first match of the Women’s T20 World Cup. New Zealand defeated India by 58 runs in the match played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. New Zealand, batting first, gave India a target of 161 runs. In response, the Indian team was all out for 102 runs in 19 overs. India’s second match will be against Pakistan on October 6. India did not have a great start in this match. Shefali Verma was dismissed by Eden Carson in the second over itself. She could score only 2 runs. Carson also dismissed Smriti Mandhana. Mandhana could score only 12 runs. India’s batting was very poor in this match. Harmanpreet remained unbeaten after scoring 15, Jemima 13, Richa 12, Deepti 13, Arundhati 1, Pooja 8, Shreyanka 7, and Asha Shobhana 6 runs. For New Zealand, Rosemary Meyer took 4, Lee Tahuhu took 3, Eden Carson took 2 and Amelia Kerr took 1 wicket. Earlier, the Kiwi team won the toss and scored 160 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimer gave a good start to the team. There was a partnership of 67 runs between the two for the first wicket. Sophie Devine remained unbeaten after scoring 57 runs and Maddie Green remained unbeaten after scoring 5 runs. Apart from them, Georgia Plimer contributed 34, Suzie Bates 27 and Brooke Holiday 16 runs. For India, Renuka took 2, Arundhati and Asha Shobhana took 1-1 wickets.
