The attitude of the police was similar to the attitude of Kolkata Police after the body of a trainee doctor was found after the rape-murder at RG Kar Hospital. People said, ‘We will protest until all the accused of our daughter’s rape and murder are punished. Action should also be taken against those police officers who delayed taking action. If the police had taken immediate action, the girl could have been saved.’ BJP said- Mamata Banerjee is unable to protect girls in Bengal Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar said, ‘A fourth class girl returning from tuition in Kripakhali was raped and murdered. Villagers recovered her body from the river bed. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is not able to protect women. Even during Navratri, Bengal girls are not safe. I want to ask Mamata Banerjee how many more Bengali girls will have to face this plight under your misrule.’ BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said, ‘The body of a 9-year-old girl returning from tuition yesterday was found in the canal today. Mamata Banerjee’s police did not register an FIR. According to those who have seen the girl’s body, her body had similar injuries as Abhaya’s (Kolkata trainee doctor rape-murder) body. In this case, the body should be kept safe. The postmortem should be done in a hospital under the central government. I spoke to the girl’s father and he agrees that the body should be kept safe. The CM should take responsibility because she is protecting the accused. We will demand death penalty for the accused and a CBI inquiry into the case.’ Police said – took action immediately after FIR was registered, one accused arrested
