ED summons Manipur Congress Chief: called for questioning in money laundering case; Jairam said- BJP is doing politics of revenge

The enforcement agency i.e. ED has summoned Manipur Congress President K. Meghachandra Singh for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA). Meghachandra was asked to appear at the ED office in Delhi on October 7, but he could not appear physically. Regarding this, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Meghachandra has been constantly raising his voice about how the non-biological PM, Union Home Minister, Manipur Chief Minister and BJP have ruined Manipur, so this summons has been sent to him under the politics of revenge. He said that this action is to hide the failures of the central government in Manipur. Narendra Modi has not visited Manipur in 17 months, this is proof of his failure. Those who are scared themselves try to scare others. Congress will never remain silent. ED wrote in the summons – Meghachandra’s personal presence is necessary

In the summons, ED Assistant Director Amit Kumar said that Meghachandra’s personal presence is necessary so that he can give evidence and present records related to the investigation under PMLA. He said that if you do not appear at the designated place and time or do not present the passbook or other documents, then you will be entitled to punishment under PMLA. Congress said – We will fight a legal battle

According to the source present in Manipur Congress, this summons was issued on October 3, but Meghachandra came to know about it only today (October 7). Due to this delay, he could not appear on time. At the same time, Manipur Congress spokesperson N. Bupen Meitei posted on X – ‘Manipur Congress President K. Meghachandra cannot be silenced for raising his voice for the rights of the people of Manipur and exposing the truth of the Modi government and its agencies. We will fight it legally in the court.’ It has been almost 500 days since the violence in Manipur. It has been almost 500 days since the violence between Kuki-Meitei in Manipur. During this period, 237 people died, more than 1500 people were injured, 60 thousand people left their homes and are living in relief camps. About 11 thousand FIRs were registered and 500 people were arrested. During this period, incidents like nude parade of women, gang rape, burning alive and slitting of throats took place. Even now Manipur is divided into two parts. Kukis live in the hilly districts and Meitei live in the plain districts. Borders have been drawn between the two, crossing which means death. Understand the reason for Manipur violence in 4 points… The population of Manipur is about 38 lakhs. There are three major communities here – Meitei, Naga and Kuki. Meitei are mostly Hindus. Naga-Kuki believe in Christianity. They come under the ST category. Their population is about 50%. Imphal valley, spread over about 10% of the state’s area, is dominated by the Meitei community. Naga-Kuki population is about 34 percent. These people live in about 90% of the state’s area. How the dispute started: The Meitei community demands that they should also be given tribal status. The community filed a petition in the Manipur High Court for this. The community argued that Manipur merged with India in 1949. Before that they had the status of a tribe. After this, the High Court recommended to the state government that Meitei should be included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST). What is Meitei’s argument: The Meitei tribe believes that years ago their kings had called the Kukis from Myanmar to fight the war. After that they became permanent residents. These people cut down forests for employment and started cultivating opium. Due to this, Manipur has become a triangle of drug smuggling. All this is happening openly. They formed an arms group to fight the Naga people. Why are Naga-Kukis against it: The other two tribes are against giving reservation to the Meitei community. They say that 40 out of 60 assembly seats in the state are already in the Meitei-dominated Imphal valley. In such a situation, if Meitei gets reservation in the ST category, their rights will be divided. What are the political equations: Out of 60 MLAs in Manipur, 40 MLAs are from Meitei and 20 MLAs are from Naga-Kuki tribe. So far, only two out of 12 CMs have been from the tribe.
