Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud said on Wednesday- ‘I have served the country with full devotion. I am afraid and worried about how history will assess my tenure.’ The CJI said this in his address during the third convocation ceremony of Jigme Singye Wangchuk School of Law in Bhutan. Chandrachud’s tenure is going to end on November 10 next month. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to him as the Chief Justice of India on 9 November 2022. His term is for two years. He took charge as a Justice in the court on 13 May 2016. CJI’s questions to himself- I find myself pondering over the questions- did I achieve all that I aimed to do? How will history assess my tenure? Could I have done things differently? What legacy will I leave for future generations of judges and legal professionals? CJI Chandrachud said- The answers to most of these questions are beyond my control. And perhaps I will never get the answers to some of these questions. However, I know that over the past two years, I wake up every morning with the promise that I will do my job to the fullest and sleep with the satisfaction that I have served my country diligently. The world needs leaders who are inspired by motive
He said- When you navigate the difficulty of your journey, do not be afraid to take a step back, re-evaluate and ask yourself, am I running towards a destination or am I running towards myself? The difference is very small but profound. Ultimately, the world needs leaders who are inspired by motive and not just ambition. One should enjoy the journey instead of getting stuck in the goal
He said that due to his passion to bring change in the world, he often pushed himself to extremes during work. For a long time, he used to work as if the problems of the world were only on his shoulders. He said that over the years I have realized that our ability to contribute to our community is deeply hidden in our self-perception and ability to self-care. Instead of getting stuck in the fear of reaching the target, one should enjoy the journey. He told the law graduates present at the convocation ceremony – I am a few decades older than you, so I can tell you that it is not easy to overcome these fears. However, personal growth is in dealing with fear directly. ……………………… Also read these news related to CJI DY Chandrachud… CJI said – my credibility is at stake: Said – different lawyers get the same case listed for hearing, this practice should be stopped CJI DY Chandrachud condemned the practice of lawyers, in which different lawyers get the same case listed for immediate hearing.
