Japan’s organization Nihon Hidankyo has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace this year. This honor has been given to them for running a campaign against nuclear weapons in the world. This organization includes those people who survived the nuclear attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the Second World War. They are called Hibakusha. These Hibakusha share their suffering and painful memories around the world through the Nihon Hidankyo organization. The Nobel Committee said that one day these people who suffered the nuclear attack will not be with us, but the new generation of Japan will keep sharing their memories and experiences with the world and will keep reminding them how dangerous nuclear weapons are for the world. Organization formed after testing of hydrogen bombs
The Nihon Hidankyo organization was established in 1956 during the second world conference against nuclear and hydrogen bombs. America had tested the hydrogen bomb in 1954, in protest against which the World Conference was started in 1955. Even after almost 10 years of the nuclear attacks in 1945, the victims did not receive any help from America. The US military had banned the victims from speaking or writing anything about the nuclear attacks. Since its inception, the organization has sent groups of hibakusha (victims) to different parts of the world to tell the people of the world about the terrible damage and human suffering caused by nuclear weapons. The organization has tried to ensure that no more hibakusha are created anywhere in the world, and the world can become ‘nuclear weapon-free’. 80 years ago, a nuclear attack took place on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 am, the US dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima from the Elona Gay plane. It exploded after being in the air for 43 seconds. Immediately after this, a huge fireball arose and the surrounding temperature reached 3000 to 4000 degrees Celsius. The explosion caused such a strong wind that the blast spread across Hiroshima in just 10 seconds. Within a few minutes of the blast, 70 thousand people died. Three days after this attack, America also dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki. This bomb was named Fat Man. The bomb that fell on Hiroshima was named Little Boy. Fat Man, weighing 4500 kg, was filled with 6.5 kg of plutonium. The bomb exploded in Nagasaki at around 11:02 am. More than 40 thousand people died in this attack. After the nuclear attack, Japan surrendered and the Second World War ended. Nargis, who is imprisoned in Iran, received the Nobel in 2023. In 2023, Iran’s female journalist and activist Nargis Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She received this prize for fighting for women’s freedom and their rights. The Nobel Committee announced the Peace Prize with the slogan of Iranian women – Jan-Zindagi-Azadi. 51-year-old Nargis is imprisoned in Iran’s Avan Jail. She has been arrested 13 times so far. After the last arrest, Nargis was sentenced to 31 years in prison and 154 lashes. In an interview given to the New York Times in June 2023, Nargis said that she had not seen her children for 8 years. She last heard the voice of her twin daughters Ali and Kiana in 2022. So far 111 people have received the Nobel Peace Prize The Nobel Peace Prize was started in 1901. So far this honor has been given to 111 people and 31 organizations. Mahatma Gandhi was not given the Nobel Peace Prize even after being nominated 5 times. Questions have been raised on this many times. In 1937, Jacob Worm-Muller, who was an advisor to the Nobel Prize Committee, had said – Gandhi is a freedom fighter, idealist, nationalist and dictator. Sometimes he seems like a messiah, but then suddenly becomes an ordinary leader. He was not always in favor of peace. He should have known that some of his non-violent campaigns against the British would turn into violence and terror. After this report of Jacob, the committee decided not to give Mahatma Gandhi the Nobel Prize for Peace. This was not the only occasion, even after this, Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize four times in 1938, 1939, 1947 and 1948. However, his name was removed every time. ————————————————– Also read these news related to Nobel Prize 2024… South Korea’s Han Kang gets Nobel Prize for Literature: Honored for weaving the disintegration and trauma of human life into stories South Korea’s Han Kang got the Nobel Prize for Literature.
