On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, students of Jamia Millia Islamia University took out an awareness rally. Organised on the theme of ‘Priority to mental health at workplace’, the rally was aimed at making people aware about the importance of mental health. In the programme, Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakeel Ahmed said – In today’s fast-paced life, maintaining mental health has emerged as a serious challenge. Students should consult a psychiatrist without any hesitation as soon as they find out about mental health problems. On this occasion, he announced the establishment of a ‘Mental Health Unit’ in the Psychology Department. He congratulated Professor Sheema Aleem, Head of Psychology Department, faculty members and students for organizing this event. Screening of film for health awareness
This awareness rally passed through all the departments and institutions of the university and ended at the main campus, where a street play was performed by the students. In this play, the necessary ways to understand and deal with mental health problems were explained. Along with this, a quiz competition named ‘Idrak’ was also organized. Prof. Sheema Aleem expressed her gratitude to the University and the Vice Chancellor and said – Our physical and mental health are two sides of the same coin. But still most people do not pay much attention to it. Today, mental health awareness is more important than ever in the workplace. We are proud that we are starting a mental health unit in our campus. Our aim is to show the students the way to take care of their mental health and break the silence on it.
