Voting will be held on November 13 for by-elections on 47 assembly seats in 13 states. Today is the last day to file nominations. Elections are to be held on 2 seats in Madhya Pradesh. The most important is Budhni seat. This has been the traditional seat of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava filed nomination on Friday. By-elections will be held on 7 seats in Rajasthan. There is a direct contest between BJP and Congress on four of these seats. There are three seats on which there will be a triangular contest. By-elections are to be held on 4 seats in Bihar – Belagnj, Imamganj, Tarari and Ramgarh. No seat is being spared from nepotism. Vishwanath Singh Yadav, son of RJD MP Surendra Yadav, has got the ticket in Belagnj. Deepa Manjhi, daughter-in-law of HAM Party supremo and former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, has been made the candidate in Imamganj. By-elections will be held on maximum 9 seats of Uttar Pradesh, 7 of Rajasthan, 6 of West Bengal, 5 of Assam, 4 each of Bihar and Punjab, 3 of Karnataka, 2 each of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Sikkim, 1 each of Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya and Chhattisgarh. Voting will be held on Kedarnath assembly seat of Uttarakhand on 20th November. Results of all will be declared on 23rd November. Equation of assembly by-elections in states BJP fielded 5 candidates whereas SP fielded 3 backwards, tickets distributed on the basis of caste and religion in UP by-election NDA and SP have announced candidates on all 9 seats for UP by-election. Both the parties may often accuse each other of casteism among the public, but caste was kept as the first eligibility for selection of candidate. Tickets were distributed on the basis of caste on all seats, not only for the by-election, but also for the equation till assembly elections 2027. BJP has fielded candidates on 8 seats. NDA ally Rashtriya Lok Dal will contest from Meerapur. NDA has fielded 5 backward, 2 Brahmin, 1 Dalit, 1 Thakur candidates.
