A private doctor in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal has been accused of raping a female patient multiple times. The case is from Hasnabad area. The victim says that she had gone to Dr. Noor Alam Sardar’s clinic for treatment. The doctor raped her after giving her an injection to make her unconscious. The doctor also took obscene pictures of the victim woman in an unconscious state to blackmail her. After this, he demanded Rs 4 lakh by threatening to make the photos viral. Police have registered a case on the woman’s complaint. A few hours after the FIR, the accused was arrested and presented in the court. The court has sent him to police custody. According to India Today’s report, the doctor had raped the woman multiple times. The woman did not want to get the injection. The woman lives alone in Hasnabad area of North 24 Parganas. Her husband lives abroad. The woman told her husband about the rape incident over the phone. Both of them lodged a complaint with the police only after her husband returned to India. The husband told that his wife did not want to get the injection, but the doctor had said that getting the injection would speed up recovery. After getting the injection, she started fainting. The doctor told her to lie down on the bed. When she regained consciousness, she saw that she was not wearing clothes properly. She came to know that she had been raped. The wife was afraid of defamation. The husband told that when the doctor blackmailed her after the incident, his wife also tried to commit suicide out of fear of defamation. As soon as the neighbors told about the suicide, I returned to my home in India and lodged a complaint with the police. Bengal ranks fourth in the country in crimes against women. The NCRB report states that according to the crime data of 2022, 34738 cases of crimes against women were registered in West Bengal. West Bengal was at number four in terms of crimes against women. Uttar Pradesh was at the top with 65 thousand 743 cases. After this came Maharashtra (45331 cases) and Rajasthan (45058 cases). The NCRB report has revealed that the rate of crime against women (number of incidents per 1 lakh population) has increased from 64.5% in 2021 to 66% in 2022.
