To further strengthen India’s air defense system, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has made a new deal with Russia. This deal has been done with the Russian government-controlled arms export company Rosoboronexport (ROE) for the Advanced Pantsir Air Defense Missile Gun System. The Pantsir Air Defense System is a versatile mobile platform designed to protect army bases and other infrastructure from air attacks, including aircraft, drones and precision guided munitions. It has advanced radar and tracking systems. Which is capable of detecting and attacking targets up to 36 KM away and 15 KM altitude. This agreement for this defense system between the two countries was done during the 5th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IRIGC) Subgroup Meeting held in Goa. The deal is part of the Make in India Initiative. The target of BDL and ROE is to find new ways for manufacturing, technology transfer and joint development of the Pantsir variant. This is included in India’s target to become self-dependent in defense production under the Make in India initiative. India had signed a deal worth 5 billion dollars. In 2018, India had signed a deal to buy S-400 air defense system from Russia. Under this deal, India was to get all these air defense systems in the next 5 years. So far, Russia has given only 3 air defense systems to India. India is still to get 2 S-400. A major reason behind this is believed to be the Ukraine war, due to which the delivery of air defense systems is getting delayed. Deal to make Mango missiles in India. Russia’s government defense company Rostec had said in June this year that it has started work for manufacturing Mango missiles in India. Mango missiles are a type of shells, which are fired with the help of tanks. Rostec said that it is also making plans for the production of gunpowder in India. These shells fired from a 125 mm caliber tank gun are capable of tearing apart armored tanks and armored vehicles. These shells can penetrate the strong outer structure of tanks, penetrate them and then explode. In simple words, when it is fired from a tank, it first tears apart the target and penetrates inside and then blasts. These shells can penetrate 230 mm steel at an angle of 60 degrees up to a distance of 2000 meters. Apart from this, it can tear apart 520 mm steel when fired straight i.e. at 0 degrees. ……………………………….
