India rejected the $300 billion climate finance package designed to help developing countries during the 29th Conference of Parties (COP29) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. India described this amount as much less than the needs of developing countries. Chandni Raina, on behalf of the Indian delegation, said, “We are very disappointed with this, it clearly shows that developed countries are not willing to fulfill their responsibilities. We are sorry to say that this document is just an illusion.” On Sunday, at COP29, an agreement was reached to give $300 billion every year to developing countries till 2035. Its purpose is to encourage developing countries to reduce fossil fuels, prepare them to deal with climate change and help overcome the damage caused by it. This document is just an illusion Chandni Raina said in the closing session of the meeting that “In our opinion, this package will not be able to deal with the big challenge facing all of us. We oppose its adoption. A package of 300 billion dollars cannot meet the needs of developing countries.” She said – Developing countries are being affected the most by climate change, but they are being pressured to slow down their development and reduce carbon emissions. Developing countries are also facing a unilateral carbon border adjustment mechanism created by developed countries. Developing countries have been demanding 1.3 trillion dollars every year for the last three meetings. In the year 2009, a target of 100 billion dollars was set to help backward countries, which has now been increased to 300 billion dollars. During the COP meeting, all countries review the Paris Agreement and Convention and assess international efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
