Shia-Sunni community agrees on ceasefire in Pakistan: Ceasefire will last for 7 days, 64 people lost their lives in violence

A 7-day ceasefire has been agreed upon amid the ongoing conflict in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. After government efforts, both the tribes fighting each other agreed to this. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to form a high-level commission to resolve the dispute between the two communities. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Muhammad Ali Saif said that the government has talked to the leaders of both the communities. After which an agreement was reached on a seven-day ceasefire and returning the bodies and captives to each other. The conflict started last week when a passenger van convoy was fired upon in a conflict between the Alizai (Shia) and Bagan (Sunni) tribes in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All these vehicles were going from Parachinar to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in a convoy. So far, more than 64 people have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured in this three-day violence between the two communities. However, some media reports put the death toll at more than 100. More than half of the population in Kurram is Shia Muslim, while most of the population in Pakistan is Sunni Muslim. According to the New York Times, half of the 7.85 lakh population of Kurram near the Afghanistan border is Shia Muslim. Due to this, communal tension remains between the two communities. On Friday too, the violence was more in those areas of the district where people of Shia and Sunni communities live together. There has always been tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which became a safe haven for terrorists due to the border dispute. Because of this, many terrorist groups use it as a safe haven. A major reason for the terrorist incidents here is the lack of mutual agreement between the two countries regarding the border area. Actually, Pakistan and Afghanistan are separated by a border. It is called the Durand Line. Pakistan considers it a boundary line, but the Taliban clearly says that Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa state is its part. The Pakistani army has fenced here with barbed wire. After the occupation of Afghanistan, the Taliban asked Pakistan to vacate this area and uprooted the fencing here. Pakistan opposed this and deployed the army there. After this, the Taliban blew up the Pakistani check posts present there. —————————— Also read these news related to Pakistan… Thousands of Imran supporters protesters arrested in Pakistan: Going for a rally in Islamabad, getting support from 60 foreign locations A convoy of protesters protesting for the release of Imran Khan in Pakistan is moving towards the capital Islamabad.
