The Bangladesh High Court on Wednesday acquitted former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) President Khaleda Zia in a corruption case. After this, Khaleda Zia reached the American Embassy in Dhaka to complete the US visa application process. Zia has been suffering from serious liver, heart and eye problems for a long time. 79-year-old Zia was sentenced to five years by the Special Court in the orphanage trust corruption case, after which she was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in 2018. On 30 October 2018, the High Court increased her sentence to 10 years. Later, she was also sentenced to seven years after being convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. In the year 2020, her sentence was suspended on the condition that she would stay in her house and would not leave the country. Khaleda Zia’s bank account has been unfrozen a few months ago. Her bank accounts were frozen for 17 years. The Central Intelligence Cell of NBR had ordered the freezing of Khaleda Zia’s accounts in August 2007. Protests continue for the release of Chinmay Prabhu On the other hand, protests are going on everywhere in Bangladesh over the arrest of ISKCON religious leader Chinmay Krishna Das Prabhu. The protesters blocked the roads in Dhaka, Chittagong and Dinajpur and raised slogans demanding Prabhu’s early release.
