The Ministry of External Affairs told the Parliament on Thursday that the ‘audio-video’ messages of the officials of the Indian Consulate in Vancouver, Canada were being monitored and it is still going on. Their personal messages were also being read. This information has been given to the Indian officials by the Canadian officials themselves. According to news agency ANI, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said that the Government of India had sent a note on November 2 complaining about this to the Trudeau government and called it a violation of diplomatic provisions. Kirti Vardhan Singh gave this information in response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha. He was asked whether there is any information about any incident of cyber surveillance or any other kind of surveillance on Indian diplomatic officials in Canada? The minister said – relations with Canada will remain bad
Kirti Vardhan Singh also cited the recent statement of Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in his reply. Spokesperson Jaiswal had said about the messages of the employees being read that the Canadian government cannot justify this fact by citing technical matters. Kirti Vardhan Singh said that India’s relations with Canada have been and will remain difficult. The reason for this is the Trudeau government’s promotion of extremist and separatist elements. The minister said that these people advocate an anti-India agenda. They take advantage of Canada’s rules to carry out violent activities. This is dangerous for India’s sovereignty and integrity. Canada had refused to provide security to Indian officials. On the steps taken regarding the security of Indian diplomats, the Minister of State for External Affairs said that India is in constant touch with Canada. We have asked them to provide necessary security to our diplomats at all times. The minister said that Canadian officials have been providing security to Indian diplomats and diplomatic properties, but recently they have refused to do so. He said that they have expressed their inability to protect the consular camps from the violent actions of separatist and extremist elements. Canada placed India in the list of countries posing threat
Minister Kirtivardhan Singh also said that the Canadian government has placed India in the list of Section-1 in the National Cyber Threat Assessment report released every two years. Being placed in this list means that Canada is in danger from India’s cyber program. Canada released its list on 30 October. In this, India was placed at number five after China, Russia, Iran, North Korea. The Minister of State for External Affairs said that the number of Canadians of Indian origin is 18 lakhs, which is 4.7 percent of Canada’s population. Apart from this, there are 10 lakh NRIs including about 4.27 lakh Indian students. Canada has the largest population of people of Indian origin as compared to other countries. ………………………………………………………….
