Atul Shrivastava, an actor who played the role of Salman Khan’s father who is only 4 years younger than him. The film was Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Salman liked his work so much that he gave him work in his next two films. Atul Shrivastava did Shahrukh Khan’s makeup for the TV show Fauji. The wheel of time turned in such a way that after many years he worked with Shahrukh Khan in the film Bhootnath. Atul, originally from Lucknow, was left completely alone during the Covid period. His two younger brothers died fighting this disease. Atul’s condition was also bad. Anything could have happened. Still, he not only defeated this disease but also appeared in big films one after the other. Recently he was seen in the role of Rajkumar Rao’s father in the film Stree-2. Today in Success Story, the story of Atul Shrivastava… Had the talent of acting since childhood, orchestra people used to ask me to join the group
I am a resident of Lucknow. In my childhood, I used to participate in cultural programs held in the streets and squares there. There I used to make people laugh with my jokes. However, in my childhood I could not understand why people were laughing and why I was making them laugh. I was in seventh or eighth grade. A gentleman came to me. He used to run the biggest orchestra of Kanpur. He said that if you join our group, you will get 75 rupees per day. I told this to my mother. Mother immediately scolded me. Mother said that first study. I used to think of myself as a great hockey player, but when I came to know the truth, I backed off. Along with studies, I also used to play hockey a lot. I considered myself as a great hockey player. One day I really went to play among big people. That day I came to know how much trouble I was in. That day I decided that playing hockey is not my cup of tea. The job of entertaining people is good. I joined theatre during school itself. Mother said- first do graduation, other things later. Meanwhile, I told my mother that I want to go to Bharatendu Natya Academy. Mother said that first complete your graduation, then do whatever you want to do. After completing my graduation, I joined Bharatendu Natya Academy. I topped there, I also got a scholarship of 250 rupees. I used to pray to Lord Hanuman to get me tickets, someone would even bring them for me.
Atul Shrivastava is a great devotee of Lord Hanuman since childhood. In his childhood, he used to go to watch movies with his friends. He did not have money, but he used to pray in his heart that someone would bring him tickets. Then someone would actually come and give him tickets at a low price and go away. Well, this might be some compulsion of the ticket sellers, but Atul felt that it was the grace of Bajrang Bali. Atul did theatre for many years. Meanwhile, he started getting TV shows. Within no time, he became a big name in the TV world. The producer increased Atul’s fees 4 times.
Atul had worked in the TV serial Kashmakash. He was getting very less money for this serial. When the producer came to know, he called Atul. He asked whether he was getting less money? At first Atul hesitated a bit, then he said yes. After this the producer increased Atul’s fees 4 times. The first film was Munnabhai MBBS, shared the screen with Sunil Dutt
Atul Srivastava did a small role in Sanjay Dutt’s cult classic film Munnabhai MBBS. This was his first film. In his first film itself, he shared the screen with a veteran actor like Sunil Dutt. For this film, he got a call from director Rajkumar Hirani’s assistant. Atul did not know till then who Rajkumar Hirani was. When Atul signed the film, Shahrukh Khan was cast in place of Sanjay Dutt. Later he refused, then Sanjay Dutt was finalized. Salman Khan laughed a lot after seeing Atul’s acting
Atul played the role of Salman Khan’s father in the film Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Salman laughed a lot after seeing his acting and was impressed. When the casting of Dabangg 3 was going on, Salman personally called him and offered him the role. In Dabangg 3, Atul played the uncle of the film’s actress Sai Manjrekar. Suddenly he got a lot of father’s roles. Atul’s role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan may have been small, but the audience liked that small role very much. Perhaps this is why he got many father’s roles in the next few years. In the film Luka Chuppi, he played the role of Kartik Aryan’s father. His role was big in this film. Then in both parts of Stree, he played the role of Rajkumar Rao’s father. His scenes were also cut in both parts of Stree. Saw the worst moment of life during Covid, two brothers passed away. Atul was doing film after film. He was getting good roles and exposure in all the films. Then Covid came. This period was the worst for him. His two younger brothers passed away. He himself was corona positive and remained in the hospital for many days. His condition also deteriorated. However, it did not affect his professional commitment. The house of both the brothers became empty, the stuff lying there was distributed among the neighbours
Atul’s both brothers lived on rent in Malad area of Mumbai. After his death, the landlord repeatedly asked them to vacate the house. Atul did not have the courage to go there. For a few months, he kept paying the rent. Later, one day, he went to vacate the house. The people around gathered. Atul gave a cupboard to someone, clothes to someone else. The people around loved both Atul’s brothers a lot. They wanted to keep some of their mementos with them. Atul did not disappoint them. He gave whatever he asked for. Friends used to tell him to buy a car, Atul was happy to travel in a rickshaw
Atul said that he does not like the world of show-off. He bought a car only when he felt that it was needed now. Atul says, ‘When I became a little successful, my friends started telling me to buy a car. Even if it is a second-hand one. I used to travel by auto then. Friends used to say that you are an actor, if you travel by car then you will have Bhaukaal. I said what is the use of Bhaukaal if I don’t know how to act. Later when I started facing problems in travelling, I bought a car.’ Never demanded more money from producers, happy with whatever I got Atul Shrivastava is one of those rare actors who give more importance to art than money. He said, ‘I have never given importance to money in life. I kept doing films in whatever money the producers gave me. I have also worked in many such films whose budget was in hundreds of crores, but I got very less money in comparison to that. Whatever the budget, producers always say that they lack funds.’ ………………………..
