Imran Khan found guilty in May 9 violence: Supporters of former PM had entered military offices and set them on fire

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was convicted by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Saturday for the violence that took place on May 9, 2023. The court has also cancelled Imran Khan’s bail in 8 cases. According to a report by The Express Tribune, Judge Manzar Ali Gill said in his written verdict that the audio and video evidence related to the violence presented against Imran Khan is sufficient to prove him guilty. The court also cited the testimonies given against Imran in its verdict. Among them, Imran Khan was accused of conspiring to incite his supporters in Zaman Park. Imran ordered attacks on military properties In the verdict, the court said that the allegations against Imran were serious. He had ordered attacks on military and government properties. Imran’s supporters, following his advice, attacked military bases, government buildings and police officers. The court said that the violent incidents that took place again on May 11 after May 9 and the attacks on police officers were also done on the instructions of Imran Khan. The recording of undercover police officers was presented by the government in this case. Last month, Imran Khan was granted bail in another case related to Toshakhana (Toshakhana Case-II) on 20 November last month. The Islamabad High Court had ordered to deposit a bond of 10 lakh Pakistani rupees as bail. However, Imran could not be released even after the order. Imran Khan has been in jail since 5 August last year. Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, who were already in jail, were arrested from jail in Toshakhana Case-II on 13 July this year. However, Bushra Bibi has been granted bail by the Islamabad High Court on 24 October last month. Earlier in November, a hearing was held in a Pakistani court to acquit Imran and Bushra in Toshakhana Case-II. However, the court rejected this petition. Imran has been in jail for 485 days Imran has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for 485 days in different cases. The local court of Islamabad convicted him in the Toshakhana case on August 5, 2023. After this, he was arrested from his house in Zaman Park, Islamabad and sent to jail. Later he was convicted in 2 more cases. However, Imran has been acquitted in all these cases. After his release in the fake marriage case on July 13, he was arrested in the Toshakhana Case-II case. He got bail in this last month. Details of major cases related to Imran Khan Case-1 Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Farid Maneka, accused Bushra and Imran of marrying in an un-Islamic way. After Bushra’s divorce, Khan married her even before the completion of the Iddat period. Bushra and Imran were convicted in this case on February 3. They were sentenced to 7 years and fined 5 lakh Pakistani rupees. Both were released in this case on July 13. Case-2 Earlier, on June 3, the Islamabad High Court acquitted Imran Khan in the Cipher Case (secret letter theft) due to lack of evidence. He was sentenced to 10 years by a special court in Islamabad. Imran Khan was detained on 29 August 2023 in the Cipher Gate scandal. Case-3 Khan was released on April 1 in the Toshakhana case. His 14-year sentence was canceled. Case-4 Imran was arrested on July 13 in the second case related to Toshakhana. This case was a follow-up to the first case of Toshakhana. In the first case, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra were accused of hiding information about gifts received from heads of state of other countries and selling them in the market.
