The final of the Syed Modi India International Badminton Championship was played at BBD Stadium in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. India got gold for the first time in women’s doubles on Sunday. The pair of Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated China’s Bao Li Jing and Li Qian 21-18, 21- 21-11 to register a win. In women’s singles, Indian player PV Sindhu defeated China’s Wu Luo Yu by a margin of 21-14, 21-16 to win the match. Sindhu has won the Syed Modi Championship after 2022. She has also won in 2017. She reached the final of the 2019 championship but lost. Lakshya Sen also got gold
India has also got gold in men’s singles. Lakshya Sen defeated Singapore’s Jia Heng by a margin of 21-7. There was a close contest between Lakshya and Jia. Lakshya had also won the first set by a margin of 21- 6. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Christo’s pair lost
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles category, India’s 5th seeded Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Christo’s pair lost to Thailand’s 6th seeded D Puavaranukroh and Supisara Peevsampran. After winning the first set in the final, both players made a comeback, but in the last set, the Thai players made a comeback again. The Thai players won the final by 21-18, 14- 21, 8- 21. China’s victory in men’s doubles In men’s doubles, the pair of Prithvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratik played a match with China’s Huang Di, Li Yu Yang from India.
