Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday raised questions about the tax policy of the central government. He wrote on X that the government is going to introduce a new tax slab amid the ever-increasing collection from GST. There is a plan to increase GST on things needed by the public. Capitalists are being given exemptions, while the common people are being looted. Rahul said; – Wedding season is going on right now. People must have been collecting money by saving every penny for a long time, but the government is going to increase GST from 12% to 18% on clothes above Rs 1500. This is a grave injustice. Rahul said – This is being done to waive the debt of billionaires. Rahul has called GST as Gabbar Singh Tax. He said that the hard-earned money of poor and middle class families is being looted to waive the debt of billionaires. Our fight is against this injustice. We will strongly raise our voice against the burden of tax and will put pressure on the government to stop this loot. The government implemented GST across the country on 1 July 2017. After this, 17 taxes and 13 cess of the central and state governments were removed. GST is an indirect tax. The government has raised Rs 1.82 lakh crore from Goods and Services Tax, i.e. GST, in November 2024. It has increased by 8.5% on an annual basis. A year ago i.e. in November 2023, the government had collected Rs 1.68 lakh crore GST.
